The biggest tell of the counterfeit was that the cut metal edges were not properly ground and polished as in the real product

Secondly in the counterfeit the burrscrimps on the hinge used to keep the garlicpressing plate in place were poorly done and visible from the top unlike the real product where crimps were smaller and visible only from the bottom of the press when the arms were fully opened

Oddly we made it 23 years before i told her i was leaving tighter than a bulls butt at fly time

The first press i tried tried to be like this press but the perforated basket was thin and had sharp edges and was hard to clean

The next press was more like the calphalon press but after a month of regular use the hinge holes had enlarged and the press would no longer fully close resulting in a lot of wasted garlic and it wasnt actually stainless chromeplated cast metal
