The only other reason its not 5 stars is because the blade clamping system is not very user friendly

In my opinion you get a more consistent stroke holding by hand in this system than if you were trying to freehand it on an old fashioned whetstone

Lastly if you want to reproduce exact angles to minimize blade wear during sharpening download an app on your smartphone or buy a digital bevel from your local hardware store

Because the knife is being held at an angle different from paralell you have to calibrate your bevel to account for the angle of the base that the knife is sitting on

If i were someone sharpening a dozen blades of differing widths each time i sat down with it it wouldnt be the thing i would want to use

The missing star is due to the fact it didnt come with instructions in english as well as the necessity to mount the device onto a base for more stability

The 1500 had a couple of chips out of one end which is an inconsequential defect that does not effect its function
