I dont know if kitchenaid is planning to no longer make this unit because it doesnt look like it is available on the website any longer the unit i own onyx black isnt available anywhere and i will be really sad if it is discontinued

Most slow cookers use heat tape and dont reach any specific set temperature they just get hot
