Since there are holes even in the center stem it keeps water from pooling and then having to reach through floating goo

Just as a test i put a bunch of rice in the sink and not only did it catch it it didnt even slow down the water drainage

But it is hard to get gunk out of the drain basket so be prepared to spend time sponging it off and picking out hard to remove crap
