The quality of most affordable cookware has severely declined over the years in my observation.
That said i boiled my first pud and the product did everything it was supposed to.
This steamer is just under 6 high with the cover on loosely, 5-3/4 with the cover locked.
Price
Given the cost i would have thought it would be a tad heavier but overall, it is fine.
Shipping
Also great for steak and kidney puddings(we didn't have steak, just a few tough cuts made soft in the steamer.
Competitiveness
We tried it out with my family's 19th century christmas pudding recipe with great results.

So if your circular steaming pot is not at least 10 inside diameter, or your oval crock pot is not at least 10 x 8, this steamer will not fit inside (don't ask me how i know this).

With the pudding steamer it eliminates all that, no butter paper, no toweling, no strings.

The recipe i found i first tried in a metal bowl as that was all i had, but it barely fit in my stock pot.
