    The bottom gear mechanism is just there for show but it complements the illusion that the top and bottom gear sets are moving the time dial

    It does occasionally make a little noise when one of the four mating seams in the outer ring are passing over the timing gear but that only happens every three hours and i dont notice it unless i am sitting right next to it and the room is completely silent
