The 8266 12-5 node-emcu boards are a great buy for the price. Super easy to use and setup. Wifi works well and easy to set up using the wifimanager library. Love these boards for ease of use and access to so many more pins than the common esp-01.

Prefer that the pins not be soldered (drop a star). Sck is d5, m iso is d6, and mosi is d7 by default. It works excellently.

Cons

Used one board as wi-fi module for open evse charger, but locked up after 2 weeks and will not flash. One cannot trust sellers, once they sell you a good product and another time a bad one. The fact that i changed literally zero variables when uploadi... Read More

Recommendation get a breadboard and some jumper wires which makes it much easier to connect components to the esp8266

Download the esp8266 board library plug in the esp8266 via micro usb this provides the 3v power required
