Straight out of the box i gave a few turns of the dial to advance the blade and i was getting thin ribbons

In the photo i ran it over some hard maple right out of the box

Even with a fine cut it was a little hard to get the initial bite into the wood

But to be fair this is a dense wood and i normally expect to need to flatten the base and hone the blade on any new plane
