Pros & Cons
Pros
There are funny asides to the reader and seemingly nonsensical asides, which recall terry pratchett and douglas adams. Thoroughly enjoyable. The author is witty and sarcastic which has me laughing in every chapter.
Johannes is so vividly fleshed out in this first book of the series. This is the opening installment of a 5 book series. Clever, witty and deadly fun, this entire series is fantastic.
Cons
A solidly written novel energizes the reader; a mediocre one drains. Writing and publishing a novel is extremely difficult work and i respect those that attempt it. Plus i guess that the author is british because he used a lot queens english.
Johannes cabal isn't a very compelling faustian figure. He's mostly just fussy, and this story of him and his demonic carnival really wasn't my speed. His final conflict with satan is entertaining but not enough to redeem the book.

Difficult to go wrong with the premise of a demonic carnival
A witty and beautifully written tale of a man who must collect 100 souls in a deal he makes with the devil
I didnt really connect well with the characters as i would have liked although i did enjoy their personalities
A deal with the literal devil for only the right to avoid interruptions sent by satan himself
