Pros

Alan moore's evocation of his hometown sustains the meticulous composition of his graphic excursions. Moore has a pleasing descriptive prose that's quite easy to read. Moore not only creates a rich world replete with pathos and joy but one of incredib...  Read More

The characters are multi layered and highly developed. There are chapters (long ones) written in joycean stream of consciousness and one in gobbledygook that might drive you batty. I count at least ten puns or other sorts of wordplay in these two sent...  Read More

Jerusalem is a million words in length and one of the longest books ever written in the english language. The writing is exquisite, and at times challenging, but patience will be rewarded. This is a review of the kindle version.

The characters in jerusalem find not an afterlife so much as a recurring existence, within a trans-temporal chess game. Alan moore’s jerusalem is a highly experimental work, jumping around chronologically to visit times as long past as the early middl...  Read More

According to wikipedia, jerusalem is one of the top 20 longest books ever written. It is not a book for everyone, but for those who seek the cutting edge of language exploding against absolute truth it will be a continuing and repeated delight.

Cons

For fiction reading it just feels like a chore. There is a chapter in which the main speaker is in an asylum and the text is unreadable. It is like the emperor's (invisible) clothes.

Jerusalem is pointless after 1000 pages. It has no sense, no value, nothing to offer the humble and serious reader. To the rest of us with imaginations it's just not necessary.

It brings questions of how space and time are woven together and puts forth the proposition that nothing ever really ceases to exist not matter what we see in the present
