    If you are not doing anything battery intensive, then you should be able to charge your surface while using it, albeit slower than if it was off.

    Note: when charging, the display is on and you can see from underneath that the battery takes up about 2/3 and then there's a gap of nothing, then the display and probably the circuit board.
