I mounted my woofer in the door after completely sound deadening the doors then mounted the tweeter no more than 6 inches from the woofer which in my case was the factory tweeter location

Its not the tweeters fault if you mounted the woofer closer to your ear then the woofer would sound louder

After correcting the spikes and dips in frequency response my fellow car audio shop mates were actually very impressed that i tamed the beast to even their satisfaction and all i did was look at the frequency response graph and leveled everything out to make the frequency response completely flat
