This is an obvious design flaw, or maybe a built-in weak point so that we have to purchase another pair of tongs! Not recommended for this purpose.

Bought these to use in my air fryer and was really pleased with them also great that they lock too
Works ok would be better with a clip to close when not in use
Cant comment on the lock feature as ive never used it no need as the tongs sit open in storage
