There seem to be forces against them largely her mother but also for them because 8 years later they meet again in nyc and then are thrown together for work for two month in ireland

The author used a interesting way to bring side characters to life in the form of notes from them to the reader giving their point of view and showing them to be not all good or all bad despite how they appeared in the story
