Because the fraction mode rounds to a reduced fraction within the nearest 1128 inch its a bit cumbersome to figure a measurement in 4ths 8ths 16ths or 32nds when the reading is inbetween whole increments of that unit

For my first 6 or so months i used an old pair of starrett dial calipers and had put off buying digital because i had seen the terrible quality of the 15 chinese ones my classmates used and didnt want to shell out 200 being a broke college kid for a name brand unit
