Alas the readers copy is defective after he reads or rather you read the second signature of the book the rest of the book is simply repeats of the same signature

So the next day you return it to the bookshop and learn that not only are most copies defective the signatures have been mixed up with those of another book and the chapter you read is not the beginning of calvinos book at all but of tazio bazakbals outside the town of malbork well now you want a copy of that book instead
