I was half expecting this book to be like other korean american writers who have written about korean culture based off of pure research instead of actual experience

I dont know anything about what society in korea is likebut based on this book it would seem that it is not a good place to be a woman

Of them all though i connected most with kyuri her determination and her attempt to separate herself from others despite it being impossible for her to care

I had thought the ridiculousness of western beauty standards from hair extensions fake tans fake breasts botox lip fillers and plastic surgery had distorted our perceptions so badly that natural beauty was near impossible

But korea is a whole different level with eye surgery a common high school practice massive jaw shaving that leaves the user unable to feel their chin and enormous plastic surgery centers
