These aren't silky smooth, but i haven't come across any splinters, snagging or reason to concern me about putting thread/yarn/floss on them. Occasionally they are a little rough in the inner core, but that doesn't matter so much.

I once had a pack missing a small spool and one of my larger spools had a chunk out of it likely just a knot in the wood but unsightly

There is only three sizes you get about 12 large 2 spools 24 medium 1 spools and the rest are tiny about 13 spools

These spools are too small to wrap a whole skein of floss onto them
