Metal is thick and while i can see other peoples complaints about the rubber being thin around the top i didnt have a problem with it because i just leaned into the holder to press it in didnt bang on it
If youre using a rod with a longer handle there is no stop at the bottom so the rod will hang out
I also used for bank fishing the suwanee river and it worked better than a dinky 18 rod holder for that as well
