Pros
Few false alarms which we have determined are from squirrels, but they are rare. The 3 beam system prevents false alarm unlike the false alarms a motion detector would give you. Keeps the raccoons out of our pool!
Cons
I wish the manufacture would contact me if they know how to get the system working reliably. Unless you already have an alarm this item is useless.

Very convenient with the solar power range was able to reach around 120 feet
But i need to let others know when you buy this you also need buy a alarm with the same system
As for detection of the ir emitters the emitter itself can be visualized with night vision technology but not with the unaided eye

Sighting holes through the transmitterreceiver make an otherwise potentially cumbersome mating rather simple

Cant speak to 12 mile range but my farthest sensor pair is 500 feet away on the other side of a small hill and with plenty of trees between the sensors and the receiver

The included mounting hardware is good quality but did not meet my needs so i used four industrial strength 1 x 4 velcro strips on each sensor
