The top doesnt shut so folders and papers would be appropriate for these spots

The bag unzips entirely along the top and a couple of inches down each side so it doesnt open the entire way however sliding out your laptop wont be an issue as the bag is lined with very fluffy lovely soft material which would never even think of scratching your laptop

It does not have extra space but i can carry my cell phone in one of its extra pockets easily however the item description complies with what i received
