As it turned out the cooker was bangon verified to within one degree when compared to this thermocouple thermometer hung in the middle of a shelf located in the middle of the oven

Now its a cheap product with positive and some negative reviews but amazons returns policy simplifies replacement in the event of a problem

The temperature displayed takes the guess work out of setting the oven to the exact temperature required

I positioned the sender unit on the middle shelf so that i now that the oven temperature is correct where i need it to be

The battery compartment seems to be badly made as no aa battery would fit snugly so i had to insert a small piece of folded aluminium foil to bridge the gap between the battery tip and the terminal in the battery compartment
