Reviews Summary

Horowitz is amazing! this four disc set, released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of franz liszt's birth, collects all of the liszt recordings vladimir horowitz made for rca, columbia and sony

The sixth rhapsody, which closed the pianist's 1951 carnegie hall recital (available on vladimir horowitz- the complete original jacket collection) is simply overwhelming, and all the more remarkable given the demanding program that had already been played

That there is almost no difference between this performance and the studio recording horowitz made in 1947, where the opportunity existed to record unlimited takes, is an illustration of the pianist's incredible powers on the stage

(having seen horowitz live three times in the 1970's i can attest to the fact that he was as scintillating in recital as he was on record
