The depth of case was hard to measure but i have concluded that this case is optimal for laptops thicker than mine maybe 11

The actual hardness of the shell is top notch at the edges especially at the corners

Note that the padding is only on the top and bottom of the inside of the case the sides near the zipper are not padded other than a thin piece of cloth covering the plastic casing that stops your laptop from making contact with the plasticzipper

There are two pieces of vinyl cloth on the left and right when you open the case which stop it from opening more than 45 degrees
