He does use and insert for arch support but these shoes are very comfortable great shoe i have a closet full of running shoes i buy them more so for walking comfort than for running and i must have over seventy pair im a big guy north of 300 so cushion and stability are key more so into cushion i first saw these on a website for runners the first pair i bought were a different style wore them for couple of months then i ran into a person that was wearing these mafates they looked great and even beefier than the stintons i was wearing i looked them up on line and they had very good reviews i found them on a clearance normally 170
