I was trying to use this strip for and ambilight project but cannot get the leds to function in any form

Sometimes the leds come on when i connect power sometimes one comes on sometimes only sporadic ones come on and color is anybodys guess

Atleast 90 of the leds receive power because they have lit up at some point however there is no control
