But the sleeve is approximately 14 shorter than the battery from top to bottom

When i slip both the sleeve and the battery into the flashlight the sleeve slips down another 12 or so because the contact for the positive end of the battery is a spring and it stands proud of the bottom of the internal cylinder of the flashlight

The sleeve can slide up and down within the internal cylinder of the flashlight and that means the sleeve can make noise when the flashlight moves updown or is turned from facing up to facing down
