The first book places the reader in the middle of a simmering pot ready to boil over. Just this first book alone is rather lengthy.

Dune prequel leaves you hungering for more. L lyrical prose makes his novel sing. His harrowing battle scenes and plot twists are wonderful.

If you like science fiction and enjoy reading books without excessive gore, foul language and other * and completely unnecessary elements, you should love this.

Cons

"the worst part of this book is literally everything. It is like he setup plot points on a board and drew straight lines to everything in this book so that all the points would be in the book" "the story flow lacks a sense of depth and background.

Almost all the conflicts here could be avoided with the barest of foresight or precaution. The book is ludicrously overwritten. It fails where others have told stories about galactic wide wars.

Another annoyance is how idiotic the spacefaring races are. None of these ideas are new (a half dozen other sci-fi books talk about gas giant dwellers), and frankly the softness of the science is simply too much. How * are earth's sensors that a huge ...  Read More

The book reads as if it were simply set into type straight from that dictation. Anderson has some great ideas, but executes them poorly with vapid prose, irritatingly * (as in clueless) characters and junk science.
