Sure they are plastic but they look ok and are functional

However i would advise against suspending these from the ceiling as another reviewer has done even if bolted into a joist i would not trust placing so much stress on the bolted elbow it was not designed to be used this way and instead of placing stress on the two metal arms it instead relies entirely on the friction betwern the two created by the bolted joint

Great product i love the hercules hanger mechanism but this listing is a bit misleading size wise
