Pros & Cons
Pros
The cord between the base and the actual soldering iron is quite adequate. The base is steady, and the only control i use is the power switch. I still have a 30 year old 25w radio shack iron i was using until this.
One is the gauge and type of solder you are using. Second is the type of circuity you are soldering as there may be temperature limits. Solders like a dream and keeps a consistent temp.
Heats quickly, sturdy heavy base and a holder that stays put, sponge and wire pad to clean. The temperature is easy to adjust. Manually adjust the temp up or down quickly.
The dampened sponge is a little softer than i'd like, but this is a very minor issue. The metal sponge provides for a quick and easy way to clean the tip. The tip that comes with the unit is a small chisel tip that is perfect for pcb work. The name br... Read More
Cons
If you buy this and it doesn't seem to work and you think to yourself maybe i just don't have the setttings right, just return/exchange it, it's probably defective like mine. Comes with a very small chisel tip thats really not much good for general so... Read More
Even small smd components are hard to solder with this. The method for changing temps is altogether impossible. Tried to use it again temp reads 800 but will barely melt solder.
For the sake of forewarning future buyers, i'll be the user interface is a steaming pile of. Even if you're a programmer who habitually translates decimal numbers to binary, this menu is still meaningless. It's like having to program a 1970s/1980s vid... Read More
Highlights
Quality
Sturdy well made unit and easy to use
Easy to use and a great upgrade from my cheapo soldering iron
I build 124th scale drag slot cars so the iron is on for extended periods of time and have burned out cheap irons
Soldering iron heats quickly and the tips spread the melted solder evenly across the tip surface
Price
Although this unit is a bit pricy still an incredible purchase
For the price it is an outstanding soldering station
That said nothing else comes close for the money
I think weller is overrated pace is great but not viable unless as a business
Shipping
I observed my local batteries plus had this exact soldering station on their workbench so i took a pic got on amazon and a few ... Read More
Packaging/appearance
Arrived in fine condition and it works without any noticeable defect
Even the manufacturers packaging was top notch
Competitiveness
Hakko is one of the best brands on the market
I like it so much more than the popular 601 because i can dial in my temp and it has an on off switch
And lets be clear theres really only 2 brands that people actually want to buy from hakko being one and the other being weller
I tried another well known brand it failed within 10 minutes
