Didn’t really hold water that well

I read up on how to use them but when i put them in they water leaks far too fast as the openings are very largeso i’m a little confused how it would last when i leave on vacation for a week it takes a long time to fill up with water because the opening is so narrow thus causing water to never flow out of it once its filled and placed in
