I won’t rehash the book’s plot but i will say that it is cleverly written from the perspective of several different characters and goes back and forth in time between the present and the past in these characters’ intertwined lives

There were several instances in the book where i found myself considering how i would feel or act if i were confronted with similar circumstances and whether i agreed or disagreed with or at least understood the choices the characters made

You basically start off reading with the knowledge that julian lied about losing is wedding ring 13 years again but you don’t know why and you don’t know how flora is going to handle it

It flashes back amit help readers get to the present moment and then right at the climax it will switch to another characters perspective

Also for me i appreciate the lack of intensity like this event is high stakes for those invoked but low stakes for me as a reader
