The switch on the side can be configured to turn the vpn on and off convenient because sometimes the connection will stop working or not work when the unit is first turned on and the middle led on top can be configured to show the vpn state

The documentation supplied is woefully inadequate only tells you what the default router ip address but the web based configuration is adequate if you know a little about networking
