Heats up within a few seconds and is smooth on my hair ive had many straighteners that pull on my hair or that get burn marks on the sides of them from laying them down and i can leave this one on the heating pad till it cuts off and it hasnt had the first mark on it it does get very hot that it will burn you if your not careful it works on hair that is not curly
