To put into a round old work box you need to trim the inner screw boss ears removing the inner screw mounting holes bosses

That said i specifically wanted a bright replacement for the earlier glass enclosed fixture that came with my house which would cause both cfls and leds bulbs to fail within 1 year due to heat
