At 9 across, this vise is a beast and very heavy. The rear jaw face is a bit thicker than the front face. The plates are also quite large and run on dual guide bars to keep the jaws parallel.

Cons

The poor attention to detail, however, shows up in non-parallel jaws. When tightened down, the tops meet but there's a gap on the bottom of 2.
