I applied some silicone spray to the inner surface of the seal and the large end of the shifter and the seal slid on with just a little effort and no deformation of the seal it was warm within the vehicle which also helped

Dont bother taking anything apart per all the google links on how to change this boot

I found comments stating the boot can be installed without dismantling the column housing but couldnt find video so i recorded my installation

The old seal looked bad and installing this unit makes it look much better
