If you don’t plan on whittling on the go and only whittle in one location i would go with the wood handles versions

The center 13 maybe 12 of the blade was not sharp

After stropping horsehide on hardwood backing for flatness green compound center was still not sharp

A little sharpie ink a little more stropping and a loupe showed that the middle section of the blade was ground too low hollowed so stropping really only hit the ends

The directions that come with the knife say dont use a sharpening stone but will likely need to hit the stones to correct the edge

On the other hand however as previously stated the blades are very very difficult to open making them a danger to the unprotected fingers and the access to the nail slits is minimal
