Pros & Cons
Pros
The violence is not for the faint of heart, but it never feels gratuitous or indulgent. The world building is impeccable. The cover is beautiful along with the illustrations.
The dance of the dragons ( fire and blood show) is in the book. It covers the period of the dance of the dragon. The book is better than any of the live action series but cant wait to see it on screen!
This is a first volume of history of the targaryen kings of westeros. It takes us from aegon i, the conqueror, to aegon, the dragonbane. It focuses on familial history and the broader scope of governance and struggle in the seven kingdoms.
Martin is a wordsmith, a master plotter. He builds worlds as adeptly as tolkien. It comes across as a well written history, deliberately drier than asoiaf.
Cons
The "accounts" from mushroom and his perverted views dominate the book.
Amazon no longer offers quality goods for quality prices. They offer sub-standard goods for the same prices as before. Don't waste your money ordering from here. Kept waiting for something with more teeth but never delivered.
