Spray will stick to fence and vines

We bought this to seal some really deep grooves on the trunk of our new tree and after my husband sprayed a long groove it looked so weird that we had to spray the whole trunk i hope it will fade as the tree grows because the trunk look strange being black up to the leaves then turns brown after that
