The fingers fit the rectangular holes perfectly and overlap the solid portion of the comb. The pages turn easily and my booklet feels solid. All my clients keep flipping my books inside out and the comb gives out.

I used my fellowes star manual comb binding machine to punch holes in about 40 pages

If you are using a thick back cover or a front and back thick cover i found it better to reduce the number of pages or use the 38 comb
