This is the point at which the book is less scifi than an alternative creation myth a genesis studded with references to various religious mythologies not all of them middle eastern in origin

Fall starts out brilliantly a few too many details on the legalese end who is fighting about what relating to preserving consciousness after death but it does set up the later action according to character
