Pros & Cons
Pros
This meter is incredibly versatile. As compromises go this is a good one in my view. I appreciate that amazon gave us this item to use and review and keep. Very versatile meter.
Meter has a 1/2” high 4 digit readout which is typical for most meters these days. I never realized how many situations i was adapting to a front-reader style and that the sideways display would actually be really useful. All the convenience and comfo... Read More
Most clamp on amp meters are excellent at anything over 5 amps but struggle to read lower milli-amp currents. True rms for those who want to measure non-sinusoidal waveforms. They take good dc measures, although sometimes you have to zero it before us... Read More
Meter is a bit pricey, though very worth the money considering its versatility and low amp range capability.
Cons
There are enough things about this meter that do not live up to the specs. The clamp is painfully slow. This is not acceptable in servicing industrial machinery.
Ac amp readings are a slow tedious process, as the meter slowly ramps up/down it's value. Dc amp readings are completely i get -7.
The specifications for this item say it will measure 1ma. From the attached image, at 40a and 400a dc range, the meter (extech mini clamp meter model:380947) will not zero.
Highlights
Quality
Nicely built and works well within the limits of these tools
This is a sturdy well made little device
It can detect a phantom load so small that it would take 167 days to drain a typical 40 amp hour car battery
Two of them so buy good fresh ones so it does not leak and ruin the instrument
Price
Definitely worth the price and even a bit more maybe
Couldnt ask for anything more considering the very reasonable cost

Competitiveness
Hubs tested the accuracy by comparison to another meter we have and reports it passed his tests of accuracy
This is my second clamp meter first extech and as long as it works will likely be my last

The meter itself is comparable to fluke for half the money

Id been wanting the fluke i410 acdc current adapter for my 87v meter but the price for the i410 is very high and when i checked the accuracy specs for it vs the extech ma445 it didnt make sense to spend that kind of money for just the adapter

Plus the ma445 comes with the noncontact voltage feature which i didnt have on other meters

There are a few things id change after using dmms for over 40 years

First off there really needs to be some finger moldings in the case so its easier to hold onto

It becomes very annoying when doing automotive work
Posted by a reviewer on Amazon
Pausing for the auto range feature to get the measurement gets tiring real fast and a slip of the probe means the cycle repeats

Third beware the limited voltage input for the frequencyduty cycle mode 20 volts rms max although overload is rated at 600 volts
