This meter is a very accurate class 2 meter a class 1 is better but costs 700 dollars

Calibration is very important and needs to be done once or twice a year but if you need to use the device for measurements within a few months of receiving it it is likely going to be very accurate out of the box and only within 0

Keep in mind that you should always do a cweighted reading in addition to an aweighted reading especially if the sound is in the lower frequency spectrum

There are many cheaper alternatives out there but those come with very questionable precalibration and usually come with no instructions about recalibration i had to return one such a few months ago

The instruction manual doesnt tell how to calibrate it but the online manuael at extech does show you how
