Pros & Cons

Pros

The extech can be calibrated to an external calibrator. I have a callibrator and it measured right on when i got it. Has maintained the calibration over the last few weeks without noticeable significant errors.

Extech 407730 is a good value for the person or company who needs an inexpensive way to read noise levels in any given environment. These decibel meters are great for home audio / home theatre as well as for before and after effects of a new performan...  Read More

The extech sl510 works from 35db through 130db. It has a and c weighting, and i used c as recommended. Playing an electric guitar shows a reading of 57 dba and 67 dbc.

The extech sound level meter runs on three aaa batteries. It comes with a foam ball which is added on the top of the mic for better sound absorption. Windscreen does help when you're in an area with gusting a/c or things moving.

A nice contemporary upgrade of my old standard. Only complaint is my wish to have some form of storage case as the foam ball tends to come off easily. Kudos the design team for making great products at fair prices.

Cons

Took the case off, and. Also it seems cheaply manufactured - metal part looks dull and plastic parts are roughly fit. It looks like internal firmware was crashed.

This one is worthless. It’s useless garbage.

Quality

I am well pleased of the quality of this product and the difference it makes in our worship center

Quality seems as decent as any other similar gadget

Dont bother with the 2080 meters if you want true readings

Class 1 meters usually start around 600700 usd and are too expensive for the average user

Price

This meter is a very accurate class 2 meter a class 1 is better but costs 700 dollars

Packaging/appearance

I have a high end calibrated source for my older meter and when i tried it on the extech it read exactly the correct value

Competitiveness

Kudos the design team for making great products at fair prices

Even sound meters that cost thousands of dollars will not go beyond 140db

To learn how to do calibration you need to download the sl510 manual from the extech website

Only issue is that if you are doing a long timeperiod recording like several days the system wont shut off when the batteries are low meaning they can discharge completely and start to leak
