Pros

I have 4 meters, including a high-end fluke, and 3 *, and this meter just got the spot in the everyday toolbox. Build quality is excellent but that's expected given its extech.

The true rms works well when reading waveforms that aren't pure sine waves. Functionally the meter has everything one is likely to need and for home use its accuracy is more than adequate. Everything works accurately and as advertised.

The 40a dc range gives you 2 decimal points on current, which is great. Most clamp on amp meters are excellent at anything over 5 amps but struggle to read lower milli-amp currents. They take good dc measures, although sometimes you have to zero it be...  Read More

This is a wonderful clamp meter that provides a wide array of functions for the hobbyist, garage buff, or electrician. Highly recommended within its limitations, particularly for homeowner use. That also helps with accessibility for smaller projects.

The pomona banana jack is a quick and easy way to see if a wall socket, switch, or appliance is “hot”. The volt-ohm probes are 41” long. Using the measurement probes (or banana jacks) allows you to make all other measurements supported by the meter.

Cons

My recommendation is to pass this item by. Painfully slow.

The specifications for this item say it will measure 1ma. Dc amp readings are completely i get -7. Not made for milliamp readings. Can not trust the reading on dc amps.

The lcd screen is not secured internally.

This one is set apart from most others in that it will measure dc current and temperature which not all clamp meters will do and i wanted an allinone solution to replace my circa 1980s micronta true rms multimeter

It is very difficult to tell what it is pointing to unless you have good light

The service technician had a fluke clamp meter and i though this would be a good opportunity to compare the extech to the much more expensive fluke

So we measured the current of the compressor motor and both meters read essentially the same within a 100ma of each other on a 12a reading

Over the last couple of months since i received the extech ma445 ive measured precision resistors film caps temps line frequency diode drops and tried out the ncv function

The meter is well built and has low current capability with a 1ma resolution for dc current a feature not available on many equally priced clamp meters

The only drawback that i found with the 380942 meter is that in order to take ma current readings you must first zero out the display and must leave this function enabled in order to take accurate readings and while you do this the minmax functionality is not available

Posted by a reviewer on Amazon

When you switch the meter to “ma” the display will always display some value higher than zero so you must enable the dca zero function in order to take accurate readings
