Pros

The exotac nano fits right into the sheath with my leatherman surge, and now i have a back up fire kit that works well. At $20 this is an easy buy, at $27 it was a bit tough to justify. I like how compact it is -about the width of a sharpie, and the d...  Read More

The best edc ferro rod on the market. Ferro rod is replaceable which helps reduce waste.

The nano sparks with ease and is also very durable. The ferrocerium stores in its tube to keep it protected, and to prevent jingling keys from causing a spark.

Pretty decent striker, impressively small design. But one with a proper striker. I use to have one that had the striker on one side and the magnesium on the over that was old school.

Cons

It shoots weak sparks about every 5 strikes. The only way i can get it to work somewhat reliable is to shave some of the material into my tinder and hope a spark hits it. It is very hard to use, and produces little, if any, sparks.

I have several ferero rods and this one performs the worst. Maybe the one i got has a bad ferro rod, but fials miserably. I have a $5 walmart rod that puts it to shame functionally.

This is a get what you pay for device

At 20 this is an easy buy at 27 it was a bit tough to justify

I think they are worth the extra

Packaging/appearance

I tossed the lanyard that came with it and used a loop of black kevlar cord to attach it to my keys

Competitiveness

Only down side is the flint rod is rather small compared to the alternatives

Though it’s more expense than knock offs and other similar products it’s worth the added money in my opinion
