Pros & Cons
Pros
The exaco 1500 cold frame is not a bad deal. It's big enough to harden off all the tender starts for my 500 square foot garden. Placed on top of the old swiss chard patch and filled out with some transplanted beets.
There are 4 anchors included with the frame kit consisting of a mount and a metal anchor rod. It now comes with a temperature adjustable automatic opener that used to cost an extra $60. Auto vent works well.
The instructions are murky, but once you figure out what they're getting at, assembly goes smoothly. Assembly is easy except the automatic opener requires drilling some holes in the plastic, which i haven't undertaken yet.
The lexan glazing is amazingly strong and light. Pieces fit together solidly. The parts are good quality and sturdy.
Cons
No opening brackets, no connecting pieces to assemble panels. Directions refer to left, right, first and closest without any point of reference. For a product to be so cleverly engineered and so poorly explained is unforgivable.
Highlights
Quality
There are 4 anchors included with the frame kit consisting of a mount and a metal anchor rod.
As an avid organic gardener of +30 years, i highly recommend this unit regarding quality and simplicity.
One small complain was the quality control on the hardware; two of the little wing-nuts arrived unthreaded (!
It came with the automatic opener cylinder.
Price
This should last a minimum of 10 years, so my cost is only $2.
