It's a padded type of plastic. I love how roomy it feels. The wheels are super quiet.
Cons
They claim to have invoiced me via paypal, but that hasn't happened.

I do not like feeling closed in while sitting in a chair for log periods of time 6 hours at a time

Chair is a bit bigger than i had anticipated as i am 5ft 9in and when the chair is all the way up my feet dangle and do not touch the floor

So if you are not a very largetall person i would recommend the next size chair down from this one

I have neck problems so the included neck pillow was not comfortable for me to use
