I find that the strap locations inside the bag that are supposed to be used to secure the frame simply do not reach the components of my bike properly

Left the pedals and seat on just took off the handlebars

All that was required to get my bike in was to remove the pedals handlebars not the entire fork and tires

For extra protection you could go a step further and remove the derailleur and rotors if applicable

The bag is 47 lbs including my bike so it could be checked as a regular luggage no extra fees

Just a tip that i was not aware of be sure to leave any co2 cartridges and greaselube at home because the tsa people will freak out if they find it in your bag
